OB Johnson Park

O.B. Johnson Park

Hallandale Beach, Florida

OB Johnson Park is an existing 6.4 acre park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and was slated for improvements as part of the City of Hallandale Beach's parks master plan. In 2014, Burkhardt Construction, Inc. was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk for the OB Johnson Park improvements project. The first phase of improvements consisted of demolishing an existing racquetball court, basketball courts, restroom building, baseball field, gymnasium building, and human services facility. Once the demolition was complete, construction of the new park features began. Construction on Phase I began on the park and on the 42,000 square foot intergenerational facility simultaneously and were both completed by the middle of September 2016 after just one year of construction. The intergenerational facility boasts a 14,000 SF gymnasium, computer lab, senior center, exercise room, teen center, seven classrooms, full commercial kitchen, conference room, break room, and offices for all of the support staff needed to run a building of such scale and community importance. The Phase I park improvements included a new parking lot, plaza area with concrete game tables and benches, two new tennis courts with Musco Sportslighting, new sidewalks, parking lot lighting, security cameras, playground with artificial turf, furnishings, lush landscaping, and a field house/concession stand building to support the proposed multipurpose field. Phase II of construction consisted of the construction of a multipurpose field with a drainage system, new Musco Sportlights, grasspave area, and fencing. It was complete in February 2017.
