The Results Are In

Online voters have selected Worth Avenue as the third “favorite iconic American street” in a reader’s choice competition conducted by 10Best, a division of the USA Today Travel Media Group.

Voting took place over the past four weeks at www.10best.com/awards/travel, with 20 famed destination thoroughfares across the country nominated for the honor.

Memphis’ Beale Street received the most votes, putting that city’s downtown stretch — which is famous for the blues and barbecue — at the top of the 10-best list.

In second place is Santa Fe’s historic Canyon Road.

“We were surprised by the results, though we still know we’re really No. 1. And pulling into third place really is pretty remarkable,” said Gregg Beletsky, president of the Worth Avenue Association. “Making the top 5 and beating out other Florida streets is especially satisfying and proves our status as an iconic destination.”

Other “iconic” streets in the top 10, in order, are: Bourbon Street in New Orleans; Las Vegas Boulevard, known as The Strip, in Las Vegas; San Francisco’s scenic twisting hillside tourist attraction Lombard Street; Michigan Avenue in Chicago, known as the Magnificent Mile; Calle Ocho, main drag of Miami’s Cuban community; Boston’s historic Beacon Street; and Miami Beach’s trendy Art Deco-style strip, Ocean Drive.
